The Quest

THE QUEST - unknownTHE QUEST FOR THE ORIGINAL AND TRUE PRONUNCIATION OF THE SACRED NAME

The Old Covenant Name

As with any religious movement, the sacred name movement has its prominent identification mark. Preachers and teachers in this movement demand that their members pronounce the Hebrew name of God. This name they call the Sacred Name. Because of this emphasis, they call themselves the Sacred Name believers, thus the Sacred Name movement.

Upon occasion, individual sacred name people who correspond with us are offered the opportunity to write an essay to be posted on the web site. The invitation is to support, explain, or defend any of their doctrinal issues or to rebuttal any of the points made on the Sacred Name Movement Errors Web Site.

Certainly we do not agree with the points made in these essays. But, we publish them here in an attempt to let our visitors see first hand the extent of the error into which sacred name converts have sunk.

We are often falsely accused of attempting to make the sacred name doctrine out to be a spiritual monster. These essays are sacred name teachers speaking for themselves. They also let our visitors judge for themselves whether the doctrine of the sacred name movement is a monster or not.

Couple Having Argument

Tim Hegg recently published an excellent article entitled The Given Name of our Messiah- The Controversy over “Yeshua” vs. “Yahshua”.

As usual, he guides his audience through the fog of misinformation and cuts to the heart of the matter using the Hebrew and Greek words of Scripture, itself, to uncover the truth.

What is the Sacred Name Movement?

The sacred name movement is a religious movement which began in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It grew out of division within the Church of God (Seventh Day).  The primary and therefore the namesake concern of this movement is both the written and the oral use of the name Yahweh, or one of the other many English forms of the Hebrew name of God. From this emphasis derives the name, Sacred Name Movement.

Introduction

Why study the history of the Sacred Name Movement?

To understand the errors of the Sacred Name Movement, it is well to learn something of the history of this religious persuasion. Who started it? Where did it start? Why were these people interested in the sacred names? How was the sacred names doctrine propagated? Why and how did the sacred name people become fragmented into so many groups? These and other questions come to mind as needing answers, if we are to understand the Sacred Name Movement..

A question this writer has been able to answer only in part is why does the sacred name doctrine have such great appeal to religious exclusionists, end of the world doomsday groups, and militant anti-government religious organizations?
